Haunted Railway Stations In India

The haunted train stations in India are a topic of an interesting conversation at a workplace or at a late night house party. Considering Indian train stations are nearly 200 years old, it'd be odd if there were not a few ghosts hanging out today in the premises. Here is a list of railway stations that you should better stay away from, unless you are outrageously adventurous. Because they are haunted!

1. Begunkodor Train Station, West Bengal

Located in a remote village in West Bengal, this station is reportedly haunted by a white-sari draped spectral, the ghost of a lady who was run over by a train there. She has been seen dancing on the platforms and wandering along the tracks, and the sight has allegedly caused the death of a railway employee. However, these reports were rubbished by the government and the station was reopened in 2009 after being deserted for 42 years.

2. Rabindra Sarobar Metro Station, Kolkata

Also known as the Paradise of Suicide, this metro station has witnessed 70 per cent of all the suicides that take place on metro tracks. Eerie figures appear and vanish in a fraction of a second. Shadows move on the platform on late evenings. Such occurrences are commonly experienced by commuters who travel by the last metro at around 10.30 pm.

3. Barog Station, Shimla

The Barog tunnel/tunnel no 33/tunnel 103 is the longest tunnel on the Kalka Shimla Railway route. It takes about 2.5 minutes to cross this tunnel. Colonel Barog, a British railway engineer who was originally assigned to construct the tunnel, felt humiliated and depressed when a miscalculation about the engineering led to him being fined by the government and reprimanded in front of his workers. He ended up shooting himself while taking a walk. Though he was buried outside the then incomplete tunnel, one wonders if his spirit ever left the tunnel. It is believed that he still lingers in and around the eerie and damp tunnel making his presence felt.

4. Naini Railway Station, Uttar Pradesh

Though people haven't particularly ‘seen’ figures or shadows, a ghostly presence has been felt here; possibly of the unfortunate souls of the freedom fighters who perished in Naini Jail, not too far from the station.

5. Dwarka Sector 9 Metro Station, Delhi

There are rumors that an angry woman runs behind cars at night and sometimes even knock at their door! It is believed that the ghost of the woman killed a school-going kid . The female figure is seen often by late night travellers.
